I love hands on, creative, fun learning. We spend most of out day in stations while I work with small groups or one on one with my students.

Winter Addition Game (2 Versions)
Dec
20
2011

This dice addition game helps students practice addition facts up to sums of 12, as well as even and odd numbers. It comes in two different versions, penguins and snowmen, so you can have enough variety to use it all season! Use it as a take home game, for large group play with a partner, or in your math center. Each game version has black and white printable pages as well as a set of colored pages to be laminated and used with dry erase markers.

Include 2 dice for regular addition practice. You can also provide one die and one number cube so students can practice "counting on." In this version, students will say the number on the number cube and "count on" from that number as they point to the dots on the die.

This game addresses the following Common Core Standards in Math for kindergarten and first grade:

K.CC.2. Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).

K.CC.4. Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality. When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object. Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
K.OA.5. Fluently add and subtract within 5.

1.OA.5. Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2).
1.OA.6. Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on

Night Before Christmas Fry's Sight Word Phrases game

Night Before Christmas

Fry's Sight Word Phrases Level 3 (Groups 1-4)

I've also recently uploaded Pack the Sleigh and Here Comes Santa for Level 1 and Level 2 sight word phrases respectively.

Students practise and consolidate sight wrods with this Christmas themed board game.

Like the other games, it comes with 4 sets of 25 cards (100 card total). You only need 1 set to play a game - swap over the cards to differentiate for the students in your class.

How to Play:

  • Players take turns to take a card. If they can read the phrase, they get to spin the spinner and move the number of spaces spun. If they can't read the card, they stay where they are. The card is placed face down on the bottom of the pile.
  • The first player to make it pass the Christmas tree wins!

Extra game: I've included "You've been naughty! Return the cards to the pile" cards so you can play BANG! with the cards as well.
