Purple Background
Best for grades K-3
Gentle, happy, encouraging words

This sweet poem was the centerpiece of a mini-lesson where we discussed our hopes and dreams for the future. We created a lovely, colorful bulletin board filled with pictures of our hopes and dreams encircling the words of this poem. We were inspired by this bulletin board to encourage our classmates to pursue their dreams and to always be hopeful.

Best for grades 1-3
Imaginative poem about the excitement and creativity abounding when a group of siblings, cousins, and friends rummage through the contents of a huge old costume trunk to create the perfect Halloween costume for each one of them. The costume creating culminates in a big parade through the backyard for their families. The day ends with treats and happy smiles. The poem is followed by 2 pictures to draw.
We created a colorful, exciting Halloween bulletin board with the students pictures encircling the words to this imaginative little poem. We added pictures we found of pumpkins.

He Taught Me How Blind Eyes See: Story, Questions, Draw

8 Pages
Best for grades 3-5
Here is a 3 page story about a blind-deaf college friend, a friendship forged by learning and serving, and the strength and beauty of optimism. The story is followed by 11 questions, an opportunity to draw, and an opportunity to describe your drawing to a blind friend.
This story is a true story. The hope is that this story will encourage students to reach out to serve/help and also learn from those who have special needs. This story has inspired my classes each year to seek out and engage in community service projects. These experiences build empathy, compassion, and strong bridges of hope, trust, and friendship. In serving others, we see ourselves more clearly.
One Arts Infusion Collaborative seeks to create resources that challenge us to see beyond ourselves and cultivate a compassionate view of our communities and the world around us.
