Fix It Up Sentences (March) (Capital letters and ending punctuation)

This pack is now available in a Fix It Up Sentences BUNDLE saving you 25%!

This activity is connected to the CCGPS ELACCKL2a. Capitalize the first word in a sentence and the pronoun I. This packet contains 10 pages. Each page has a simple story on it including five sentences. The ten stories are about leprechauns, rainbows, a pot of gold, hats, shamrocks, gold coins, kites, bears, lions, and lambs. The sentences are not written correctly. The first letter in each sentence is not capital as well as I and St. Patrick’s Day, and the ending punctuation is missing. Have your students rewrite each sentence correctly. Begin each sentence with a capital letter and add the correct ending punctuation. The sentences used contain frequently used sight words, decodable words that students should be able to read, and a few other common nouns that students see often. These activities are great for morning work, literacy centers, homework or for a quick mini lesson on including capital letters and ending punctuation in sentences. Students can read the story to a partner or to the teacher after correcting the sentences. Students could also add other details to the story using the back of their paper.

Saint Patrick's Day Cause and Effect Interactive PowerPoint
Feb
27
2017

This is an interactive PowerPoint review that could also be used as part of a teaching lesson. It begins by teaching or reviewing what cause and effect is. Then, it moves into allowing students to choose the correct answer from Saint Patrick's Day themed sentences for cause and effect.

The PowerPoint does use macros to be interactive, but the notes describe how to enable macros in your PowerPoint software, so that you can use the file.

A PDF file of the PowerPoint notes is included to help you know what to say and when to click the slides. The presentation is very user friendly, but the notes are included just in case clarification is needed.

The preview works in the same way as the entire presentation. It just only includes one cause and effect statement.

Emergent Reader: Sight Word: it
Feb

2017

Emergent Reader: Sight Word: it

This emergent reader for the sight word "it" is connected to several CCGPS listed below. This 13 page book includes a title page with bubble letters spelling the focused sight word for students to color, then 10 pages include a black and white picture at the top of each page with a sentence using the focused sight word. There are two more pages asking students to draw a picture of their own and write a sentence of their own using the sight word, and then the final page asks students to trace the sight word three times and then write it three times on their own on the blank line. After this, there are 13 additional pages with the exact pictures and words as the first 13 pages. The only difference is that on this second copy of the book, the sight word being focused on is dotted on each page for students to trace.

This book introduces question marks and exclamation marks for expression when reading!

Title page: it (bubble letters to color)
Page 1: Where is the ball?
Page 2: Is it in the pail? No!
Page 3: Is it in the basket? No!
Page 4: Is it in the net? No!
Page 5: Is it in the jug? No!
Page 6: Is it in the pot? No!
Page 7: Is it in the backpack? No!
Page 8: Is it in the truck? No!
Page 9: Is it in the chest? No!
Page 10: It is in the box!
Page 11: creative sentence writing
Page 12: tracing and writing sight word

The PREVIEW shows all pages included.

The pages of the book are not numbered giving the teacher flexibility of removing pages not desired when using in small guided reading groups for differentiation.

This 13 page book is designed so that you can copy the book, cut in half, staple, and then it is ready for use.

Students can benefit from this reader by tracking print, identifying spaces between words, identifying particular letters of the alphabet, recognizing sounds (beginning, middle, and ending) in each word, and reading sight words and grade level text. For extension activities, students could add another sentence to each page giving details about each picture shown. The black and white pictures allow students the opportunity to color the pictures. This reader is great for guided reading groups, homework, or literacy center activities.

***This is the 10th of 100 emergent readers for popular sight words (high frequency words) in the works. The readers will build on the words focused on in the previous readers as much as possible.

ELACCKRF1a. Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page-by-page.
ELACCKRF1d. Recognize and name all upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
ELACCKRF1b. Recognize that spoken words are represented in written language by specific sequences of letters.
ELACCKRF1c. Understand that words are separated by spaces in print. ELACCKRF3a. Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or many of more frequent sounds for each consonant.
ELACCKRF3c. Read common high-frequency words by sight.
ELACCKRF4. Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
