4 Important Days: Memorial Day, July 4th, September 11th, and Veteran's Day.

Here is the simple sheet music, the lyrics, and a picture to draw for a song called, "Memorial Day." Memorial Day is surely an opportunity to reflect upon the high price of freedom and remember, with very grateful hearts, those who sacrificed their all so that we can live in the blessing of being free.
This song is best suited for students in grades 1 through 5 and was written to be played and sung quite slowly and deliberately. The sheet music is very simple to play on the piano and contains guitar chords, as well. The song, with lyric sheet and drawing sheet, is 6 pages long.

Here is a short, sweet poem about celebrating the 4th of July with family and friends gathering and organizing a patriotic parade where everyone carries and plays a very original instrument made with creative supplies and their own hands and imaginations. Wonderfully fun!! The poem is followed by 5 questions, and an opportunity to draw a picture of the patriotic parade you'd love to have. Hopefully this poem will inspire a patriotic parade in your neighborhood.

Here is the sheet music, lyrics, and a picture to draw in honor of September 11, 2001. September 11, 2001 changed our country. In the midst of horrific tragedy and grief, courage, solidarity, and resolve emerged. May we never forget that day.
This gentle song celebrates the hope that is at the heart of America.
This patriotic song is well suited for all elementary aged students.
The song, with lyric sheet and drawing sheet, is 4 pages long.

Here is a Veteran's Day Activity and it is 5 pages long.
This Veteran's Day Activity includes an interview questionnaire for interviewing a Veteran, an acrostic to complete for your interviewee as a thank you gift, and an original poem to post in your classroom and/or to share with your interviewee, as well. This activity is especially well suited for 2nd through 5th graders. It encourages interaction and through that it encourages understanding.

Phonics Sound Cards with Power Point
Jun

2016

Phonics Sound Cards is a set of 39 phonics cards. The cards allow practice and review of short vowels, long vowel, diagraphs (ch, sh, wh, & th), vowel teams, and Bossy r (ar, er, ir, or, & ur).

This set also includes an accompanying Power Point with audio. While the audio is not studio quality, it is a resource that provides phonics support. I like running the Power Point while I'm doing attendance and starting my day. I know students are involved in meaningful learning instead of just waiting for me. I also like using this resource for my struggling students.

Note: For a smaller version of the phonics cards they can be printed through the Power Point handout print options.

Farm Animals Fix It Up Sentences

Fix It Up Sentences (Farm Animals) (Capital Letters and Ending Punctuation)

This activity is connected to the CCGPS ELACCKL2a. Capitalize the first word in a sentence and the pronoun I.

This packet contains 7 pages. Each page has a simple story on it including five sentences about farm animals. The seven stories are about cows, hen, roosters, pigs, horses, sheep, and turkeys.

The sentences are not written correctly. The first letter in each sentence has not been capitalized, and the ending punctuation is missing.

Have your students rewrite each sentence correctly. Begin each sentence with a capital letter and add the correct ending punctuation. The sentences used contain frequently used sight words, decodable words that students should be able to read, and a few other common nouns that students see often and should be able to figure out using the small picture clue and/or title.

These activities are great for morning work, literacy centers, and homework or for a quick mini lesson on including capital letters and ending punctuation.

Students can read the story to a partner or to the teacher after correcting the sentences. Students could also add other details to the story using the back of their paper.

Take a look at the PREVIEW to see all pages included.
