Pete the Cat Vocabulary Cards
Sep
30
2015

Pete the Cat Vocabulary Cards includes two sets for a total of 30 vocabulary cards. There are 12 cards for the "Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons" and another 18 for "Pete the Cat, I Love my White Shoes" story. (Pete and sing/singing is repeated for both sets.) Neither of these stories nor their illustrations are included, however you should be able to locate these books in many libraries. All the pictures are computer drawings.

I use these cards to introduce the story's vocabulary, to allow students to understand and discuss meanings of words, to classify the words in their created groups, to allow students to make connections from the vocabulary to their personal lives and the text, to assist students in retelling the story, and to writing sentences with related vocabulary.

All the picture-word cards that are included are the following: Pete, button, shirt, shirt with buttons, roll away, groovy, cry, stuff, popped off, sing, belly button, white, red, blue, brown, shoe, shoes, walking, love, stepped in, strawberries, blueberries, mud, bucket, water, bucket of water, wet, and singing.

This set now includes seperate picture and word cards to be used as a matching game and for extra reinforcement. Enjoy!

Some Related Common Core Standards: L.1.5a, L.1.5b, L.1.6, L.K.4a, L.K.5c, L.K.6, L.2.5a, and L.2.6.

Word Family Books Packet (-am, -et, -ig, -og, and -un)

Integrating writing into every standard gives students writing practice which leads to success. Writing those matching sounds and then blending the words to check for accuracy goes hand in hand with reading skills. This 5 page book is designed so that you can copy the book, cut it in half, staple, and then it is ready for use. Each page has a picture in the -un word family with three blanks for students to write each -un word. Each page also has three blank lines for students to create sentences for each picture in the -un word family. The four -un pictures included in this book are sun, fun (children playing with a ball), run, and bun (hotdog bun). This is great for a mini lesson for word families, homework, morning work, or literacy centers. I hope your students enjoy creating their own sentences for the -un word family pictures.
