Product Description

Near Doubles Bingo comes with two different versions to help students learn the near doubles (doubles plus or minus 1) addition facts.  It's perfect for students who are fluent in the doubles combinations through 20 but need help making the connection to the near doubles facts.

In this game packet, you get:

1. Teacher background info. (the math behind the game)

2. Student direction sheets

3. printer friendly black and white or color game boards

4. Version 1- In the first version, students don't need to know or tell the answer to the near doubles facts.  Instead, in order to mark a spot on the bingo board, they must tell their partner the two near doubles combinations they could solve with the doubles card they picked up.

5. Version 2- Students now use a different bingo board and near doubles fact cards.  Before they can mark a spot on the bingo board, they must tell their partner which doubles combination they used to solve the fact that they picked up.

i.e. "I know 5 + 6 is 11 because 5 + 5 is 10 so one more is 11."

The Common Core standards addressed are:

2.OA.2- Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.  By the end of grade 2, know from memory all sums of two  one-digit numbers.

2.OA.1- Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, takin gfrom, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions...

These bingo games are also excellent for interventions for older students.

Both of these games have been powerful for my second graders.  I hope your students enjoy the games as much as mine have!
