This is a great beginning of the year activity for K-2 students. It provides practice reading, labeling and writing to describe a picture. In this case parts of students. There are 6 different students to describe in the packet. Each has a Word Bank sheet with all the parts labeled. The other pages are scaffolded to ease young writers into labeling via cut & glue, or fil in the blank when the inital sound(s) are provided. For more advanced students there is a regular fill in the blank.
Each student in the pack also has a Write to Decribe page. Again, the writing portion is scaffolded so young writers can have success. Included are sentence strips: The boy has......... . The girl has...... The boy has.......... and...... , The girl has........and........ Or you can choose to have your students do all the writing on their own. The last part of the packet has pages for your students to draw, label and write about themselves. There is a word bank that can be cut apart for students to use as labels. There are also scaffolded sentence strips: I have........, I have _____ and ______. These would be great to place in a class book for your students to read over and over again!
Word Bank words include: hair, eye, braid, ponytail, ears, mouth, nose, shirt, blouse, top, glasses, sunglasses, dress, shoes, jeans, pants, case, pencil, backpack, sandals, tights, etc.
